NWG Innovation Festival

July 6th - 10th, Newcastle, Free

The NWG Innovation Festival is a truly unique and exciting event. The festival brings together hundreds of professionals from across the world, from a variety of sectors with an array of skills to work on problems and challenges, finding innovative and creative solutions together. We are passionate about inspiring the next generation and showing them what they could be part of in the future, and the skills they may need!

The NWG are delighted to announce we are now taking bookings for the 2020 Innovation Festival and have been working hard behind the scenes to make sure that this year our offer is even bigger and better!

STEAM+ is an opportunity for children and young people to meet organisations and professionals, and take part in a range of engaging and meaningful encounters, that are not just fun, but will also help raise their awareness of exciting career opportunities, possibilities, and develop both STEAM and core skills, that will support them now and in the future.

The activities and thinking this year will be focussed around the UN Sustainable Development Goal, SDG6: Clean Water and Sanitation.  As an organisation we are passionate about raising awareness of SDG6 and helping to solve this goal through collaboration but by also encouraging pupils to learn more about SDG6 and how they too can make a difference now and in the future!  We will be sharing information, activities and ideas in advance so that you and your pupils feel more informed about the day, as well as adding deeper context about their very important role at the festival. They are there not just to be inspired but to also inspire others!

You can join at Newcastle Racecourse for a morning or afternoon and take part in our interactive workshops. We are also very excited to announce that there will also be a pop-up STEAM inspired exhibition, with a variety of activities for your pupils to get involved with. We’re working on the finer details still and will send you more information by early April at the latest on what exactly you can expect… but here is a summary:

  • KS2 Primary Schools. We’ll have several hands-on workshops that combine STEAM skills and a range of personal skills.
  • KS3/4 Secondary Schools. Through sharing the inspirational stories of others, pupils will explore their aspirations, goals, as well as develop their key skills through activities and challenges. .
  • Workshops and activities for pupils with SEND and/or attending alternative provision
  • FE and HE. 6th Form, College and University Students can undertake work experience, take part in design sprint, solving real problems, or volunteering as part of the Festival Team.  This will be a 5 day commitment, including 1 day during w/c 30 June and Monday to Thursday w/c 6 July.
