Applied General Qualifications (AGQs)

Applied General Qualifications help learners to develop the fundamental knowledge and practical skills that are valued in universities and the world of work.
They tend to comprise of three elements:
1.    A substantial qualification, e.g. BTEC First (Level 2), BTEC National (Level 3) or A levels
2.    Working towards Level 2 in maths and English (if a learner is not already at this level)
3.    A work experience or other work-preparation programme

They are generally designed to be full-time (a minimum of 540 planned hours per year) but can be shorter where it is appropriate to the core aim being followed.
Providers are schools with sixth forms, sixth form centres and further education colleges. You can also take a study programme alongside an A’level. Contact your local sixth form or College for more information.

AGQs are offered by a number of awarding organisations and include OCR Cambridge Technicals, and Pearson BTECs. More details on Applied General Qualifications can be found here.
