Healthcare and life science technologies are innovating at a great pace, demonstrated by the need to respond to challenges such as Covid-19 Pandemic, an ageing population and obesity. The North East has a great combination of researchers through our universities and the ability to test and manufacture at pace as well as the National Innovation Centre for Ageing.

Our news reporters visit Sterling Pharmaceuticals who trial and test, then manufacture medicines.

Application can be across the curriculum in literacy and numeracy as well as PE, PHSE and science when exploring topics such as animals including humans, materials, healthy diets, and medicines. There may also be opportunities to link it to whole school learning activities or extra-curricular activities such as library club using source materials like George’s Marvellous Medicine.
